Small things that you and I can do to make the world a better place to live...

Try to recall.. How often have you been ignorant about switching off an electric light or a fan or your computer, when you knew you wouldn’t be using it for some more time. You would have probably thought to yourself -‘I will be back in few minutes anyway’ and would have come back only too many minutes later. How many times have you easily pushed a chocolate wrapper or the likes through the window of a bus or the vehicle you are traveling by, thinking what you are throwing is too small a thing to create a mess? When is the last time you made sure you are using water optimally without wasting it?

Now am sure, you would be recalling at least few such instances where you committed such mistakes, and most of the times it would have gone unnoticed by your own conscience. Now if your question is ‘Is it necessary to be conscientious about such mistakes?’, answer is ‘Yes, of course’. I think it makes sense to remind ourselves here that, we don’t have effective garbage management system, number of villages in the country don’t have pure drinking water or electricity. Ignorance in following traffic rules is leading to mishaps like road accidents, and taking peoples’ lives. Due to the careless, greedy lifestyle that we are having today, we have created monsters like pollution beyond control, global warming etc.
Are these facts not enough to make us feel a little more responsible about our own actions that can harm the world further. Now if you are curious to know what are those small things I can do to improve things, here are a few.
· Whenever, wherever you see electrical equipments being on and surely not under use, switch them off.
· Use water as effectively as possible.
· Reduce polythene bag usage. Carry a cotton or jute bag or at least an old plastic bag when you go for purchasing.
· Always make sure to put trash in dustbin. Dispose chemical containing trash like old batteries with precautionary measures.
· Use more of public transport.
· Avoid using chemical based products, cosmetics, medicine.
· Consume more chemical free, home made food items.
· Save paper, fill in those empty pages in your notebook before you dispose it.
· Recycle paper, plastic items, glass items, mobile phones etc..
· Avoid buying unnecessary items and piling them up and trashing them one day.
And you will find many more yourselves when you are conscious about it..

Give it a thought. It actually doesn’t take too much of time or effort to avoid such mistakes. For instance, just think about it, how long does it take to switch off a light or a fan when you are moving out of a room?
Most of us are aware of all these small things we can do, but only few actually do it. This article is just a reminder, to tell you that it’s not too tough to follow these simple things in your busy lives. If each one of us follow these simple things in life and make our family and friends do the same, it will make a real big impact.
